Elizabeth Neumes was born in Germany, the
daughter of Peter Josef Neumes and Frances (Franziska) Maria (Schmidt)
Neumes. She immigrated to Wisconsin about 1871 and married John
Boehlen on January 27, 1874.
To my knowledge, John and Elizabeth were the first Boehlens to
reside in Taylor County Wisconsin, settling in Stetsonville in
1882. Most likely they moved from the Fond du Lac, Wisconsin
area. John and Elizabeth raised 9 children in their Stetsonville
farm house. They were truly pioneers in every sense.
Elizabeth died in 1924. She is buried at Sacred Heart
Cemetery in Stetsonville, Wisconsin.

MRS. JOHN BOEHLEN
Mrs. John Boehlen, age 77,. a resident of the county for forty-two years died at the Chippewa Falls hospital, Sunday, December 7th, following a paralytic stroke. She suffered a similar stroke two years ago from which she never recovered.
Mrs. Boehlen was born in Germany and came to this country when she was twenty-two years old. Shortly after her arrival, she was married to Mr. Boehlen . They moved to Taylor County in 1882 and settled on a farm two and a half miles west of the village of
Stetsonville. Nine children were born to them, five of whom are living namely: Mrs. Emil Will, South
Dak.; Mrs. John Reigert, Stetsonville; Tom, on the farm; Vincent, this city; Mike, in Milwaukee; Mr. Boehlen died in 1919 since which time Mrs. Boehlen has made her home with her children.
As one of our pioneers she has done her part in making a home out of a wilderness and through it all has always held the respect of all.
The funeral was held Thursday forenoon (today) at 10 o’clock, from Sacred Heart Church at
Stetsonville, Rev. Betz, officiating.
Among the relatives from out of town here to attend the funeral are: Mrs. Will, S. Dakota; Mike Boehlen, Milwaukee; children of Mrs. Boehlen, and John Johannas and John Boehlen, nephews, both from Mt. Calvary, Wis. |
Rosa was the oldest child of Alex and Mary
Frances (Korn) Barbeau. At age 18, she married Vincent Boehlen
on August 12, 1912 and began her family. In the fall of 1920,
she fell victim to influenza.
There is some question as to the actual cause of death. Her sister Mildred
(Barbeau) Boehlen was present when she died and believed that it was caused
(or hastened) by medication.
Rosa is buried at Sacred Heart Cemetery in Stetsonville, Wisconsin.
